The attached picture is Kiddy, the cat that adopted us. Kiddy started coming around about 2 years ago. We would be working in the yard and this cat would appear making overtures of friendship but not allow us to pick it up. We have two small dogs so the cat would stay out of their way, laying up on something high just observing. When the dogs were in the house Kiddy would rub against our legs as it talked to us in cat tongue. We observed how friendly this cat was yet it would get scared if we tried to hold him. Kidde was way too skinny, he looked so undernourished. Its fur was very dull looking. It had to be lost we decided because it is so friendly. So began our feeding it. Not just any food mind you but BLUE Buffalo dry Cat Food as well as Fancy Feast can cat food. Spending $30.00 a month on food for a cat that does not belong to us, our family thought we were nuts. Spring became summer then fall and finally winter.
We watched for lost cat signs; never saw one for this cat. We worried that this cat would not have a warm shelter for the very cold nights to come. We live in Las Vegas, it rarely gets below freezing but it does get quite cold especially when the winds blow in off of Mount Charleston. So we bought a heated K&H Outdoor heated Kitty House for approximately $80.00, setting it up by our front door on blocks then wrapping it in a quilt and finishing it off with strong weather plastic wrapped around it, except of course the doors, to keep the rain out. Kiddy spent the entire winter in that house. Every time we opened the front door Kiddy would great us while peeking inside our house but never venturing in. Our dogs by this time had grown accustomed to the cat and had stopped barking or growling at it. One day we opened the front door and Kiddy darted in then froze as our dogs investigated their adopted fur brother. Finally we could start working on getting this cat into a pet carrier so we could take it to the vet to get checked out. That took several months. At last we faced the vet only to be told our cat was chipped. So we left our phone number taking our cat back home to await its owner’s call. When my husband answered the call he was surprised to find out that this cat’s owner lived three doors down from us yet never put up a lost cat notice. That bothered us because this cat spent A LOT of time with us. My husband explained that we had become quite attached to this cat and would like to keep it. The owner said that was fine with them as their cat would not even come to them now when they called it. Turns out they knew their cat was hanging at our house yet they never bothered to tell us. We decided this cat chose us for a reason. Maybe it didn’t like its old name. We prefer the name Kiddy as it responds to that name and comes to us when we call it. Now that we had an indoor cat we promptly spent money on cat furniture, cat tree $125.00, two scratch lounges $100.00, numerous toys and of course treats. We still have to let it out as it grew up outdoors but we are working on that. Kiddy stays inside longer and longer each time and is now staying in all night. Unfortunately on one of our cats daytime excursions Kiddie must have bragged, because one day we walked out and we had three more strays hanging around. We named them all but Kiddie chased them off and I believe he has learned his lesson regarding bragging and flaunting his good fortune. I read what I want
